Core material selection principle: progressive cavity pump stators adopt high wear-resistant elastomers; screw pump rotors are made of stainless steel with surface hardening treatment. Service life of conventional NBR and 304 stainless steel combination is extremely short.
I. Stator Materials (Priority by Wear Resistance)
- Wear-resistant Rubber (First choice, dedicated for sediment-laden media)Suitable for sludge with high sand content and hard solid particles.Temperature resistance: -20℃ ~ +80℃; pH value 6-9, ideal for municipal sludge.Disadvantage: mediocre oil resistance, not recommended for oily sludge.
- Nitrile Butadiene Rubber (NBR, cost-effective general grade)Good tear resistance and oil resistance, applicable to low to medium sand content oily sludge.Inferior to PU in wear resistance, service life only 3-6 months under heavy sediment conditions.
- Ethylene Propylene Diene Monomer (EPDM, for alkaline & high-temperature sludge)Excellent aging resistance, acid & alkali resistance (pH 4-10), temperature resistance up to 120℃.Lower wear resistance than PU and NBR, fit for alkaline, high-temperature sludge with low sediment content.
- Fluoroelastomer (FKM/FPM, severe corrosion & high temperature)Resistant to strong acid, strong alkali and organic solvents, max temperature resistance 180℃.Average wear resistance and high cost, only used for sediment-laden sludge with severe corrosion and high temperature.
II. Rotor Materials (Prioritizing Wear & Corrosion Resistance)
- 316L Stainless Steel with Hard Chrome Plating (Standard preferred)Corrosion resistant to municipal sludge; hard chrome coating with HRC 55-60 effectively resists particle abrasion.Service life 2-3 times longer than 304 stainless steel, suitable for most sediment-laden sludge.
- 2205 Duplex Stainless Steel with Tungsten Carbide Coating (High sediment & severe corrosion)Duplex steel prevents chloride ion pitting corrosion; tungsten carbide coating reaches HRC 70+ with supreme wear resistance.Perfect for high-sediment, high-chloride and acidic sludge such as mining sludge and chemical sludge.
- 304 Stainless Steel (Low-sediment neutral sludge)Only applicable to neutral normal-temperature sludge with sand content below 5%, short service life.

• Optimal (high sediment & long-term operation): Wear-resistant rubber stator + 316L hard chrome plated rotor
• General-purpose (municipal sediment-laden sludge): NBR stator + 316L hard chrome plated rotor
• Extreme working condition (high sediment + corrosion & high temperature): FKM/EPDM stator + 2205 tungsten carbide coated rotor
IV. Key Operation Suggestions
• Keep rotating speed ≤ 200 rpm to reduce abrasion.
• Install pipeline filter or sludge cutter at inlet to block large solid particles.
• Prioritize wear-resistant rubber stators when sand content exceeds 10% to cut frequent replacement costs.
